PoE planning by hand

  1. Look up the maximum PoE budget of the NVR on the NVR specifications chart.

  2. Next, look up the requirements for each PoE camera in your system on the camera specifications chart.

  3. Calculate the total maximum PoE power consumption (in watts) of all PoE cameras attached to the NVR. This method protects the system against overload and underperformance when all cameras are pulling peak PoE power.

  4. Compare the calculated PoE budget of the NVR (step 1) to the total maximum PoE consumption of the cameras (step 3).

  5. If the total PoE consumption of the cameras exceeds the PoE budget of the NVR, you must upgrade the NVR to a model with a larger PoE budget, or insert a PoE switch, or add PoE injector(s) to the system.
